Helping Your Child
This book is written toward the child over 4 years of age.  You should consult with your child’s pediatrician
before putting him or her on any weight loss program.

That being said, this book and the website are built to help you and your child build a program of healthy
eating.  There are no pills, program foods, or supplements we are trying to sell you.  The book takes pieces of
information widely available, but not always compiled in a quick, easy to read reference book.  Until now.

My own daughter lost 21 pounds in about six months (that’s her in the photo below).  I dropped 50 pounds,
and my wife about 18.  This book presents a sensible, healthy way for your child to gradually lose weight over
time.  If you’re looking for a miracle diet that will help your child lose 20 pounds in 20 days – this is not the
program for you.  If you’re looking for a simple program which just cuts out the carbs or lets your child eat all
the cholesterol-ridden food he or she wants, wrong program.  If your child is willing to take his time, eat
healthy, and hang in there – then this is the starting place.

While Krystal is embarrassed to be on the website, she is also very proud (and happy, and healthy).  As of this
reprint date she is now 17 years old, and still well within her healthy weight range.  When we created this
program for her she was 11 and we had no idea whether or not it would really work.  Of course we also had
no idea we would be building a much larger program around it for so many other children.  Well, it did work.
Then the people around me started asking how we did it.

“Did you cut the carbs?”

“Was it the ______ diet?” (Fill in the blank – there’s always a new one out there).

What was amazing to me was that this was always how the question was asked.  Nobody really said, “Hey,
Krystal lost a lot of weight.  How did she do it?”  There was almost always a diet or program mentioned.
The answer was never brief.  I had to explain exactly what we did and how we did it.  A common response to
this was, “Send me a copy of that!”  Well, I couldn’t because there was no book (yet).  What they wanted to
hear was, “It was the Dr. Green diet, it worked in 30 days, and you can get the book at Barnes & Noble.”
But that was not the case.  The program my wife and I put together came originally from some tips and advice
from my dad who lost weight to control diabetes.  We also conducted our own research, found all of the
important pieces, and put them into a program that worked for all of us.  I wrote this book to share what we
did and how it worked.  Many of these resources are now also available to you in the member section of our
website.

How did Krystal lose all that weight?  While the answer is never brief, the book will be.  I’m not going to
preach to you or talk at length about lifestyle and motivation.  If you want to send me your own child’s before
and after pictures, we would love to use them on the website or in future editions of this book (send to
customerservice@45Pounds.com).

Finally, while this book is written with your child in mind, the principles work just as well for the adult.  So if
you need to do it, then do it!
